Over 50 Abbots Youth FC boys and girls, aged 5 and upwards, were put through their paces with a Skills Challenge designed to develop the players’ footballing flair in time to kick off the new season.
The event, which took place at Manor House Gardens, saw each team complete 10 testing challenges including beat the goalie, shooting, throw ons, passing accuracy, “keepy uppys”, ball control, chipping, obstacle course, sprint challenge and a run around the cricket pitch. Medals were awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each team with an additional medal for “Best Effort”.

Social Activity Update

A successful, and rather noisy, quiz night was held in the Clubhouse on Friday 26 February. The winning team knew a lot about a lot, it must be said, from soaps to general knowledge to sport. A knowledge of national flags also proved useful.

A game of heads and tails required explaining for some, especially the part about their own "tail".

The Club raised approximately £300 from ticket sales and bar takings.

Many thanks to Andy Cox who organised the event, set the questions, and battled stoically with the baying crowd as the evening wore on!

2015/16 Season Awards: date is set

Sunday 29 May will be the formal end of season awards for Abbots Youth.

I know – one minute no football with waterlogged pitches, the next we are planning the end of season awards. But we have to begin planning now so that as many of us as possible can enjoy the day. This year we have been able to secure the Community Centre and the Manor House clubhouse on Sunday 29 May.

Volunteering is voluntary

The Committee recently discussed whether coaches/managers, or their assistants, should only have to pay reduced subs in recognition of their time and effort given every week to the Club.
After an extensive debate the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of no change. Managers/coaches/assistants will continue to pay standard subs for their children playing for Abbots Youth like everyone else.

Tough 10 Race

The club has a fund raising opportunity with the local Tough 10 race being held on Sunday 5th October. There can be no home games that day at Manor House and all teams should have arranged to cancel any games for that day. The club would like all team members to enter the race at an appropriate distance and run in the Abbots Langley Youth club strip. As well as raising funds, this is a great advert for the club.
